The medal standings for Bulgaria at the WBT Silver Belt Tournament in Maribor were won by the Bulgarian team

After their four gold medals, Bulgaria won the World Boxing Tour Event in Maribor (Slovenia) and topped the medal standings. Nineteen boxers received their gold medals in the finals. They also earned points in the IBA World Ranking System.

The gold medals at Maribor were shared by Spain, Austria, Bulgaria, and Croatia. Armenia finished second behind the Bulgarians. Their athletes won nine medals in Slovenia, including three titles. In the WBT Tour Silver Event, at least one medal was won by 14 countries.

Spain began the finals with two golds medals

Five finalists from Spain participated in the Maribor event. The first two of them opened the final session with gold medals. Although Spanish Carmen Gonzalez is only twenty-years-old, she has competed in youth and U22 events. The Spanish minimum-weight girl (48kg) was faster than Hungarian Petra Mezei. She worked hard to earn the first WBT gold medal. Martin Molina, Martin Molina’s teammate at the men’s flyweight (51kg), was the current EUBC European Champion. However, he had to fight Ibrahim Boukedim from France. His excellent finish was enough for him to win.

Three women’s titles were won by Mozambique in Maribor

Mozambique is the opening of the year. Their girls started strong campaigns as the African regional champions. Then, two promising boxers won historic medals in IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships. Rady Adosinda Gamane and Alcinda Panguane maintained their winning streaks at the Commonwealth Games and AFBC African Elite Boxing Championships, and also took the title in Maribor. Helena Bagao, Mozambique’s youngest female participant, was unable to fight Hungary’s Hajnalka Sipos in the first round. But she turned up her heat in the second. Bago was given the correct instructions during the first break, and her rhythm switch resulted in a quick RSC win for the Mozambican boxer.

Young stars of Bulgaria are Rosenov and Radev

Bulgarian Yasen Rdev won gold medals at the 2020 and 2019 editions of the EUBC Youth European Boxing Championships. The 20-year-old talent also won his first major elite competition in Maribor. Radev wasn’t yet an elite boxer like Tamir Galanov, a bronze medallist at the 2017 World Boxing Championships, but he was energetic and fresh from the start. Radev won the bantamweight (54kg), final comfortably, and showed his potential for future events. Radoslav Rosenov, a younger teammate at 19 years old, won all his European titles in the youth, junior and U22 age categories. However, Maribor took home a gold medal at an elite competition after defeating Narek Hovhannisyan, Armenian.

Maribor experts were amazed by Bayan and Hovhannisyan

Armenia’s EUBC European U22 Champion Artur Bayan did not win a medal at the Yerevan annual EUBC European Men’s Elite Boxing Championships, but his progress ensured a gold medal at the men’s lightweight (57kg). Bayan faced Gabriel Escobar, the European Games winner from Spain, in the final round. However, his tactics were successful and he won the gold medal. Rafayel, Bayan’s 21-year-old teammate, is a powerful puncher who stopped Mozambique’s Julio Gabriel Albino (86kg), in the final of cruiserweight.

Veocic and Hagag were the winners of the tightest finals on the last competition day

Croatian Gabrijelveocic made steady progress in his age group and was a quarter-finalist in the World Boxing Championships in Belgrade. He moved up to light heavyweight (80kg) and won one the most exciting contests against Gazimagomed Jaalidov. The Austrians formed a new team, and Ahmed Hagag, their boxer, won a historic gold medal at the EUBC U22 European Boxing Championships. He also earned a bronze medal at the EUBC European Men’s Elite Boxing Championships in 2022. Hagag defeated Luka Pratljacic, a Croatian super heavyweight (+92kg) following the title won by Malik Dadaev (19 years old).
