Several regions of Ukraine are without electricity and water following possible Russian sabotage as a response to the extraordinary counteroffensive in Kiev
Ukrainian media reported that electricity and water were cut in many areas of Ukraine, which they blame on Russian sabotage. The area of Kharkov, which was recently reclaimed by the Ukrainian troops, is one of the most affected.
“It’s a despicable, cynical revenge for Russian aggression for our success,” stated Ihor Terejiv (the mayor of Kharkov) in his Telegram account.
There have been reports of power outages in the Sumi and Dnipropetrovsk regions, Poltava. Zaporizhia, Odessa, and Poltava. In addition, sirens sounded throughout the country warning about air raids. Some neighbors even reported seeing explosions on social media, but this was not confirmed.
According to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the Russian forces will withdraw from many towns in the Ukrainian province of Kherson this Sunday after Saturday’s advance in Kharkov.
Moscow has not confirmed Russian troop movements to the east on Sunday but did a report on Saturday that the withdrawal of towns like Balakleya and Izium was made to strengthen positions in the Donetsk region.
So far, Ukraine has “liberated”, 3,000 kilometers of territory in its counterattack. Russia still holds approximately 125,000 km of Ukrainian territory, which includes the Crimean peninsula.
The withdrawal of the Ukrainian forces has led to speculation about a turning point in the war, as the territorial advances made by them have been limited.
