An anonymous hacker group known as the “Dark Overlord” has claimed responsibility for the cyberattack that resulted in the theft of 190GB of data from Samsung. This data includes the source code for several Galaxy smartphones and tablets, as well as employee records. The Dark Overlord has threatened to release this information if Samsung does not pay them a ransom.
South Korean tech giant Samsung In its most recent announcement, the company confirmed that it had suffered a security breach that exposed company data. Officially, the Galaxy smartphone source code was also exposed. Let’s take a closer look at the details of the breach.
Samsung is the latest company to be hacked, with 190GB of data being stolen in a cyberattack. The compromised data includes the Galaxy source code, employee information, and private messages. This could have been prevented if proper security measures had been in place. Cybersecurity is not a one-time event, but rather an ongoing process that needs to be implemented and updated regularly.
According to our initial analysis, the breach is related to some source code that relates to Galaxy devices’ operation but does not involve personal information about our employees or consumers. We do not expect any disruption to our customers or business. We have taken measures to avoid any such incidents in the future and will continue to provide services to our customers without interruption,” quoted Samsung.
According to reports, the security attack was carried out by Lapsus$, a well-known group. It appears that hackers published a screenshot of C/C++ directories within Samsung software. This screengrab clearly shows that hackers intend to publish the data online.
Later, a description of leaked data was posted on the internet. It included the source code for all Trusted Applets installed in “Samsung’s TrustZone”. According to reports, the leaked data is approximately 190GB in size. The hackers split the file into three zip files and uploaded it on a torrent.
This is just the latest in a series of cyberattacks targeting major companies, and it is clear that we are in the midst of a new era of cyber warfare. Recent reports indicate that NVIDIA lost nearly 1TB of data to the cyberattack by the same hackers’ group. This is the latest in a series of high-profile cyberattacks against major corporations. Previous targets have included Sony, JPMorgan Chase, and Yahoo.
