It is possible to view and erase the previous recordings from your Alexa to maintain your privacy.
If at home or at work, you have used an Echo device, you’ve probably had dozens of conversations with Alexa. Perhaps you’d like to take a peek at your Alexa conversations to check whether there are any mistakes it has made, rate its accuracy or delete any sensitive recordings.
You can view and manage your entire recording history with Alexa by visiting Amazon’s Alexa Privacy page. After viewing the voice history, detected sounds and Alexa data, and then decide whether you want to remove any of the recordings or not. Here’s how it is done:
1. Go to Alexa’s privacy page. Log in with your Amazon account. The overview page displays five different categories: Review voice history, Review detected sound history, Review smart home device history, Manage skill permissions, and Manage your Alexa data.
2. Click the 3rd option from the drop-down menu – Review Voice History. By default, there are
all of your voice recordings with Alexa for today across all of your Echo devices and profiles.
Scroll down and click on the down arrow for any recording you want to review. Here, you can check if Alexa’s response was accurate or not. You can give a thumbs up or thumbs down as per your judgment. Additionally, if you don’t want the recording with Alexa, you can click the Delete Recording or Delete Transcript option.
3. You can remove all of today’s recordings. Click the link at the top for Delete All Recordings from Today. To expand or narrow the search, click the down arrow at the top next to Today, All Devices and Profiles. Select the entry for Filter By Date and change it to a different time frame, such as Yesterday, the Last 7 Days, the Last 30 Days, All History, or a custom range. Next, click the down arrow for All Devices and profiles and change the filter to a specific Echo device or a specific profile. You can then review the new results.
4. Now, select the category for Review History of Detected Sounds. This page provides a list of all sounds that Alexa has detected, including smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, and the sound of glass breaking. Click the specific sound you want to review. To listen to the sound, click the Play button. To remove the sound, click the link for Delete Recording.
5. At the top of the screen, click the link for Delete All Of My Recordings to remove them all. Click the link for All History and change the filter to a different time frame.
6. Next, select the category for Review Smart Home Device History from the drop-down box on the left side. Here, you can see your interactions with smart home devices compatible with Alexa. Click the required timeframe to review your recordings for that date. Here, you can only view the data; you can’t delete it.
7. Next, select the category for Manage Skill Permissions. On this page, you can peek and delete any permissions that you’ve granted previously to different Alexa skills, which you wish to discontinue. By default, the page shows you all your skills. Click the arrow next to All Skills if you want to filter the results to only a specific skill. In this case, you can select more than one skill. Scroll down the list to see which skill permissions you have given earlier. Click a specific type of content and you can enable or disable the ability of a specific skill to access that information.
8. Finally, select the category for Manage Your Alexa Data. Under Voice Recordings, you can give yourself the ability to delete recordings by saying: “Alexa, delete what I just said” or “Alexa, delete everything I said today.” Here, you can also choose how much time you’d like Amazon to save your voice recordings.
9. Under Smart Home Device History, you can choose how long Amazon can save your history, delete your own history and receive an email of your complete history.
10. Also, under Detected Sounds History, you can determine how long Amazon can save your detected sound recordings.
11. And under Help Improve Alexa, you can disable the function in which Amazon has the ability to use your voice recordings for developing additional features or improving its services. You can also turn off the function in which Amazon has the ability to use messages you send through Alexa to improve the accuracy of the transcriptions.
