BEIJING, April 18 – On Monday, Shanghai’s market regulator notified 12 e-Commerce platforms related to the issue of price gouging during the Covid-19 pandemic period. Some of these platforms were ele.me and Meituan. The regulator on its we chat account said that the notified e-Commerce platforms were to stop ways such as inapt price increases by the riders. The regulator also told to enhance the management of delivery riders.
The 12 e-Commerce platforms said to the regulator about the up-gradation process and distinct solutions in brief that they have adopted. These platforms also traded comments related to the process taken to balance prices in the Covid-19 period, their operating situation, and common complaints by the consumers.
One of the platforms, Meituan, guaranteed that it will take suitable steps to improve the quality of its supplies, increase the no of inspections visits, set higher checks on the prices of commodities with different categories and also establish a regulating team to have an overlook over the operations. At the time when problems such as price gouging or irrational pricing are to be found, the goods will be removed from the list immediately or will be cut off before their arrival.
